Greetings YIHS community. Does your employer have a Matching Gift program? Many companies do, and when you designate the YIHS as the recipient, we benefit substantially. If your employer offers this option, please apply. If you need specific information regarding the Youth Initiative, ( i.e.: tax id #, fein, etc.) please contact me. Thanks, Liz Cox

Alumni News. Hello Conrad, I am doing very well, I am now a car salesman at a Honda dealership.  It is fun, and it pays well. How is everything going at the school, any scandals? It seems from the proposed board minutes that things could get heated (if the students step up).  After the meeting could you tell me if the students are doing their studently responsibilities. —Thanks,  Johnny Gambrell

Minutes of Sports Committee of YIHS. November 13, 2006. Present: John Karlstad, Dawn Hundt,  AnnaJo Doerr, Julia Hundt, David Whited-Ford, Brian Wickert,  Caleb Whited-Ford, Walker Willis, Henry Hundt, Bo Grams, Zachary Wickert, Liberty Hodges. We opened the meeting asking each person to tell us their expectations and hopes of this committee. Reports: Dawn reported that there is no interest in the Cashton school district in doing any Coops with YIHS. Brian reported that the athletic director, Kathy Malone at the Coulee Region Christian School is very willing to help us in developing a basketball program if we choose to do so. Kathy said that there sports program consists of having on sport each season for both boys and girls. The athletic program pays for itself through gate receipts and participation fees of $60 per player per sport. They belong to the WIAA in only basketball. They are in Division 4 in both girls and boys basketball. Out of this sharing conversation several issues surfaced.  What will be YIHS’s relationship to Coops with public schools? What sports can YIHS develop on our own? What will be the sport philosophy of YIHS? What sports for girls can we develop at YIHS? What will or relationship be with Cornerstone if we start our own programs? There has been good experiences in hockey coops and there have been not so good experiences in other sports with the public schools. What would be an acceptable coops and what would not be an unacceptable coop? There is a strong need for a sport experience or outlet for some YIHS students. How many students at YIHS are interested in participating in some type of sport? We have deadlines to send request for Coops and deadlines for petitioning VAS for our students to participate in non varsity sports that we have to keep in mind. Out of listening to these discussions the committee would like to ask the Board of Directors of YIHS permission to open a conversation with Lafarge school district about the possibility of cooping with their school. David Whited-Ford would be the lead person for the committee in this conversation. We asked John Karlstad to take this request to the BOD. Next meeting will be December 5th at 7pm. Tasks to do: David W-F will report back on discussion with LaFarge if the BOD approves our request. Brain will talk to Austin Waldorf School about their school sport program. AnnaJo will work on a sport value statement for the next meeting. Caleb will survey the students and find out the interest level for sports at YIHS. John will invite Craig Skrede from Cornerstone to our next meeting. Dawn will ask Lars to reach out to Cornerstone and home schooled students and invited them to participate in his basketball program. Unapproved minutes respectfully submitted by Brian Wickert

Christian Community. Dear friends, you are warmly invited to join our circle this coming Sunday 19th November at 11am in the Old Main Building, E Decker St, Viroqua. The lay service is intended for both adults and children and will include music, prayer, song, gospel reading (Revelation 7:9 - 8:4),  a short talk, conversation centered on the gospel reading, and story/activity for older and younger children. This month Sarah Kamin and the younger children (K-4) will focus on angels whilst Donna Simmons and the older children (grades 5-8) will be looking at death. If you intend on coming with your children, it would make planning easier if you could let Donna know (637-8057).
