Amy is a 48 year old artist who spent her early years down the road in Madison.
She spent her college days learning to follow what she loved while being covered with clay, salsa dancing, and studying Japanese language at the University of Minnesota. She got a BA in Studio Art while learning confidence and independence in the ceramics studio. And by finding her way in the grit and bustle of the city. Amy was blown open to the possibilities of what art can be by a chance encounter with the May Day puppet parade a month before she left the city.
While living in rural Japan for three years she experienced the beauty and simplicity of living a simple life in a rural area with family as the center of one's world. She transformed and focused her life by choosing to become a single mother at 25, then met and fell in step with partner Kelsey Sauber Olds. They have been making art and living life in the country while homeschooling and growing up together with their young sons.
At YIHS, Amy has taught doll making, parade and puppet art, social dance, block printmaking, and ceramics. This is her 6th year on the Personnel Committee. Amy brings her love of teenagers and a deep appreciation for what each individual brings to the school. She is enjoying learning to share her passions for singing, creating, and dancing with others.
